So…anyone remember the dreaded Article 13 overseas in the European Union and fears that if that were to pass, other countries, including the United States, would follow suit? Well…here’s our version. And we need to put a stop to this.
What if Megatron was out to set up a Decepticon empire, but not necessarily a purely Cybertronian one? What if his talk about “strength” referred to strength of will rather than purely physical might, acknowledging the mechanical aspect of their race allows them to simply be built into larger forms?
Megatron has in several continuities ( such some parts of G1 including the cartoon) has been someone who made their way to the top of the Decepticons while not being their founder and not necessarily believing in all their ideals, or at least coming from a very different cultural background than the majority of his troops.
A Megatron who shuns religion as “propaganda” might not believe Sparks are the physical representation of souls, and recognize early on that non-spark based true intelligence (be they organic, mechanical or some silicon based life etc) are possible.
He would still be contemptuous of humans, but it would be more than a snap-judgement: he has evaluated our technology level and tendency to form PSTD and found us unworthy. The Decepticons are not a charity, those not worthy of joining the empire when made contact with will be crushed, not uplifted into stronger cyborg bodies. Megatron could easily see other organic races the Decepticons have trade deals with (as they did in G1 cartoon) as people while denying humans being anything more than a “dead-end”.
i’ve realised something very important about megatron in mtmte season 2, something that colours and explains the whole second half of the comic
people joke about megatron being jro’s self-insert or whatever, but that’s not quite accurate
megatron is jro’s morrissey-insert
the whole of more than meets the eye season 2 is james roberts trying to make himself feel less guilty about liking the smiths and that’s something we’re just gonna have to live with
i suspect a lot of professor sumdac’s obliviousness regarding how obviously evil megatron is is selective– i mean, upon realizing that “robot” he’s been tearing apart/reverse engineering for decades is, in fact, sentient, the guilt must have hit him like a truck.
