I think the real problem here is that big media corporations seem to believe that social media userbases are fungible, and persist in acting on this belief no matter how many times it’s demonstrated to be wrong.

There’s a specific pattern of events that plays out over (and over and over) again, and it looks something like this:

1. Social media platform becomes popular

2. Social media platform is purchased by big media corporation in order to gain access to it large user base

3. Big media corporation realises that social media platform’s demographics are not the demographics they want to sell things to.

4. Big media corporation institutes measures to drive away “undesirable” users, apparently in the honest belief that the outgoing users will automatically be replaced by an equal number of new, more demographically desirable users

5. This does not, in fact, occur

6. Social media platform crashes and burns

You’d think that, by the sheer law of averages, at least one person who’s capable of learning from experience would become involved in this whole process at some point.

I hope any writers can check their bloodlust at the door and make him an even bigger sweetheart than Adora.

I want to see mockery and subversion that edgy reboot where he took a baby spider hostage from its mother then killed it anyway.

I want him refusing to strike to kill robots until he’s sure they’re not people because he doesn’t assume.

I want him risking himself to make sure the people he knocked unconcious are okay.

While I’m glad Tumblr finally has taken into concern the issue of pedoshit, including drawn pedoshit, I hate how they basically fucking did it by search-blacklisting the NSFW blogs on here.

Because, relating to blanket bans that take a lot of non-offenders into the crossfire motivated more by fear of loss of profits than actual harm reduction, the legacy of shit like that and the further fear of it is why so many people defend the lazzez-faire shit that lets predators run wild.

Like, there’s a reason people against dealing with AO3′s pedo problem keep citing Livejournal and Fanfic.net purges, and there’s a reason the people most insistent about “Well, sane people can tell the difference between reality and fiction” most often were around in the thick of the 80s/90s/00s moral panics; often in downright abusively repressive fundie households.

So, congrats @staff/ @support, you furthered the false equivalency between big drawn tiddies and actually dangerous shit used to groom kids, and empowered people who do shit like defend babyfurs in the name of solidarity. I hope you’re proud…
