How is the wine not spilling out of the skull, you ask? Well, either Medusa’s using a combination of the visor and ceramic to make it a proper container or there’s an Inhuman with liquid containment powers whose position as Royal cup holder togetherer is equal parts honorable and humiliating. Probably Triton. This comic is, as is usual for Wednesday’s comics, chosen by my Patrons. Speaking of…

Medusa literally M-Day’d her own people to save mutantkind from all dying, but go off I guess.
I usually like waitingforthet and I understand it’s a joke, but it’s a joke that relies on the idea Medusa hates mutants, which pretty obviously isn’t the case. Since, again, she eliminated the Terrigen Mists, which is what makes Inhumans be Inhumans, so that it would stop killing mutants. She obviously not only doesn’t hate them, she places their lives in very high regard, ultimately higher than the right of Inhumans to have their powers, culture, and identity as Inhumans. I see a lot of Inhumans-hate on Tumblr that seems to rely on very misinformed ideas like this, and I’d like to see it not spread through such a popular comics (Note: You’re allowed not to like the. There are good reasons not to. Just, this isn’t one of them)
Out here talkin like retail and service workers don’t have degrees. We GOT the degrees and still the only jobs we can get are in the service industry. The university system has become completely capitalized. Its why not only tuition is through the roof, but textbooks, student housing, and meal plans. Its why the coach for the sport you can televise has a multi-million dollar salary while the players graduate with $100,000 of student loans to pay back.
In a capitalist system, capital is the focus, the thing to trive for and promote. In a socialist system, its the people of society you ultimately support.
This is why I’m a Democratic Socialist. I believe in controlling and working towards your own destiny but tempered with a fair concern for the greater organism and my place within it. One one part suffers we all suffer. When one is lifted up, we all are by extension.
Because Mastodon doesn’t host anything. Every instance is hosted by individuals, and no instance has any control over other instances. There is an instance called mastodon.social, and it has its own rules for which instances it allows itself to federate with. (It bans other instances that support the kind of stuff we all hate here.) But it’s still just one instance.
Think of Mastodon like a really fancy tumblr theme. It is a set of tools that allow a person to easily set up and host a social media platform that is easily integrated with other websites that use the same tools. Every instance and its servers is owned and paid for by a person, not a corporation. This means that, just like any other website, people can use the tools for hosting illegal and immoral content. It also means that owners of those instances have a lot of control over which other instances they allow themselves to be federated with. Most instances have a list of instances they’ve blocked with the reasons why. I can assure you that most of the mastodon instances have their own rules that disallow illegal content and block instances that allow any kind of hate speech or child pornography.
What you’re asking is that the creators of an open source set of web development tools exhibit total control over its users… kind of like what tumblr is doing to us right now, and has the power to do because it’s privately owned.
Please reblog this to fix some of the damage. “Don’t use mastodon because there are bad people there” is like saying “Don’t use the internet because there are bad people there.” There isn’t a Mastodon Entity that has control over its users, and the reason y’all are having such a hard time grasping this is because not enough truly decentralized platforms exist and we’re all content surrendering our social media experience to a for-profit corporation that doesn’t have our best interests in mind.
Ultra Beasts are to Pokemon what Angels are to Lillin(All Life on Earth, as defined by Neon Genesis Evangelion)
Lillin are made from LCL, the primordial slime from which the chemicals that make up our DNA originated. LCL is the Angel Liliths blood. Lillith is the Seed of Life born from a Fruit of Knowledge, one of the terraforming eggs dispersed across space by the First Ancestral Race.
Children of the Fruit of Knowledge are defined by the inability to project or alter their physucal form or AT Fields. However, they have capacity for emotion and learning, making art, building society. They are also mortal.
Similarly, Angels 3-17 originate from the first Angel, Adam, whose body was destroyed in the South Pole Contact experiment in 2000. Adam was the Seed of Life from a Fruit of Life. Children of the Fruit of Life have no intelligence or emotion, but are functionally immortal (via S2 engines) and can project their AT fields and can alter their form at will. This allows them to exist in abstract forms (see Ramiel and Armisael.)
Despite these differences, Lillin and the Angels share 97% of their DNA. They are the same kind of life, only the form they exist in is radically different. Knowledge exist responsively, adapting based to environmental stimuli, Life is self directed, based on the individuals whim allowing for abstract forms that can either emulate our understanding of life or defy it.
Ultra Beasts are essentially the same thing, minus the Christian mythology inspired mythos that has been scattered across several forms of media.
Ultra Beasts are functionally identical to pokemon. They level up, learn pokemon attacks, have pokemon typing. (This is because Its a video game about catching monsters, so it makes sense to have your weird space monsters fit within your games core concept.) Game Freak has stated that pokemon are designed to function in nature, to look like exaggerated but feasible living beings. Even strange creatures are shaped the way they are because they’ve adapted to their environment to survive, so whether one is a lizard that has a burning tail living in volcanos or a haunted chandelier droppingbon unsuspecting victims in an old house, pokemon distinctly look like what we recognize as living beings.
Ultra Beasts are not necessarily the same way. Ultra Space is an environment unlike any on earth. It is inhabited solely by Ultra Beasts, the laws of physics do not function the same, the world is in a constant state of chaotic change. There isn’t a stable environment to adapt to, and thus Ultra Beasts develop in strange ways that only might appear familiar to us. Possibly even based upon their own designs and will.
The takeaway is that even pokemon based on inanimate objects look like living beings. Chandelure has a face, Trubbish, Grimer and Koffing look like living beings.
Ultra Beasts Buzzwole and Pheromosa look like living beings. Kartana and Nihilego are made from non-living materials that emulate life. Xurkitree and the new UB-06b “Build” look neither alive or emulative. They are the Ramiel and Armisael of the Ultra Beasts.
It’s also interesting to consider pokemons potential role in the development of humans and regular animals in-universe.
If my theory is correct, and pokemon are hyper-specialized extradimensional aliens that have evolved to fill niches on earth, it makes sense to assume that they replaced or coexist with other forms of life on The planet. This may be why we can use terms like mouse and snake to describe a pokemon. It’s not really a snake, But an alien that looks and behaves similarly to one.
What seperates humans from other animals then? Why do we see human characters but never dogs or elephants? The technical answer is that it’s too much to put in a game centered around befriending super-animals. Why would you play with a regular cat when you have a lucky cat monster that brings you money? But that’s the boring explenation My fun answer has to do with the Pokemon Uxie, Mesprit and Azelf.
According to Sinnoh myth, these pokemon shared the gifts of knowledge, emotions and willpower with human kind. It is believed they gave us Spirits. I don’t necessarily believe pokemon literally gave us souls, but I do think that receiving those pokemon blessings are what allowed humans to connect with pokemon so deeply. It’s what allows us to form bond’s with pokemon, to understand them and bring out their strengths. It’s what connected us to pokemon above regular animals in the world.
And a great deal of native species may have been hunted to extinction by the alien species, but that’s kinda sad to think about…
Come to think of it, Sun and Moon does have a lot of material relating to invasive species within it, between the Ultra Beasts and Yungoos being imported to deal with Rattata.
TL:DR Real animals exist alongside pokemon but nobody pays much attention to them because humans can bond deeper with pokemon because they shared their souls with us.
All the old R&B pokedex entries only discussed normal animals on the mainland…
I do think Gamefreak should go back to acknowledging the existence of normal animals, if only by like having an elephant skeleton in a museum. Or so they can have awesome underwater visuals.
