How about this game pitch: Academy X. A Hero Shooter in style of Overwatch, where you play as students of X-Men. All the matches are framed as Danger Room training simulations, to explain why anyone can fight anyone. The characters are mostly from Academy X era plus few from later books or from Morrison, I imagine the initial roster looking something like this:
Offense: Surge, Hellion, Kid Omega, Anole, X-23, Wolf Cub, Oya, Match, Goldballs
Tank: Rockslide, Armor, Gentle, Bling!, Shark Girl, Glob Herman, Indra, Genesis
Support: Pixie, Dust, Mercury, Elixir, Tag, Eye Boy, Nature Girl, Tempus, Hope Summers
There would also be a special mode of combat, an asymmetric battle where one side plays an entire team as usual, but the other gets to play someone from the classic X-Men or a classic villain, this is a type of boss battle where the students have to survive simulated fight with someone who can easily wipe the floor with the entire team.

You could have Wolverine as one of the bosses. Sure it means he is limited to one of the modes of play but it also means person playing him goes 1 vs 5 and has an advantage so I think his fanboys are gonna be fine.
