“When Anna said she was raped by two on-duty cops, she thought it would be a simple case. She had no idea she lived in one of 35 states where officers can claim a detainee consented.“

One of 35..

Reposting again. This is insane. America is a third world shit-hole.

Is there an organization we can contribute to to fight this?

The Ezidi Nadia Murad endured three months of torture before she was able to escape and seek asylum in Germany.

She was abducted by the Islamic State (IS) from her home village Kocho (Sinjar, Iraq). During this time, she was enslaved, raped, and tortured. In the attack on her village by IS terrorists on August 3, 2014, she lost her mother and six brothers. A total of 18 family members of her died through the IS. Early on, she spoke publicly about the experiences and the fate of her people and fought for the recognition of the genocide of the Ezidis.

you know what

notemily:

ok I’m still mad at that last comment about #metoo. one of my favorite books of all time is Laurie Halse Anderson’s (acclaimed, award-winning) young adult novel Speak. it’s about a 14-year-old who was raped, and the aftermath, and her recovery. so that’s a portrayal of “child rape in fiction” right? so you fucking bet I defend portrayals of rape in fiction because we need them. survivors need them, and people in general need them to understand how rape works, the effects it has on victims and how that connects to the larger culture. and that’s directly connected to the #metoo movement, not in opposition to it.

like you know people often have rape fantasies, right? and that this shouldn’t make them any less believable when they tell someone they have been raped? because one thing is a fantasy and the other thing is reality? can you tell the goddamn difference?

Why is this not taught universally.

the man is terrified haha!

I think we all know why this isn’t taught universally.

I took a self defense course in college and they taught us this, and when I told it to my then-boyfriend, he laughed and said it was too extreme. That should’ve been my first red flag tbh

the fact that she doesn’t say “so he won’t do it” she says “when you’re in court” is terrifying

Wow, I just found out the Dragonlance Inheritance series retconned a half-elf character being a product of rape, instead deciding the mother lied. Yikes.

edit: Blame lies with Nancy Varian Berberick. Who did not create the character

Two accounts of Tanthalas Quisif-Nan Pah’s (Tanis’ elven name) birth exist. Both agree that Tanis was born in Qualinost, in 258 A.C. The first account is the Chronicles Trilogy, which states that Tanis was a product of rape. It is also described in the first chapter of Kindred Spirits. The violent nature of his conception, the nature of his birth, and the choice of his mother to die from shock after her assault all influenced the way the elves regarded Tanis and shaped his developmental years.

The second account of Tanis’ origins is later presented in The Inheritance series. Here the story is elaborated on. His mother, Elansa Sungold, originally was kidnapped by Brand’s brigands, however later fell in love with him, resulting in Tanis. At that time, Elansa was also married to the prince, and so the prince tried to “rescue” her from Brand. When she refused to leave, he fought Brand, and they both died. Pregnant with Brand’s child, Elansa goes back to Qualinost pretending she was raped to protect her and Tanis.
