Spongebob is almost Cosmic Horror Lite. Episodes (at least the older ones) often featured an unreasonable and indifferent antagonistic force whose actions it neither knew nor cared about how it affected lower life forms. This is a common, if not the defining, theme in cosmic horror genres.
For instance, in the episode, Hooky Spongebob and Patrick are warned not to go near the Hooks, objects of unknowability to the denizens of the ocean. Only those who have past the veil (Mr. Krabs, and later Patrick, in this instance) can hope to experience the true nature of the Hooks. However, due to the indescribable nature of the Hooks Mr. Krabs’s warning goes unheeded by anyone who he tries to describe it to.
