I was talking with a friend about how I love
SPOP, but Adora’s attitude through Catra’s feelings is bothering me. Adora goes
from a mínimum empathy, to total disconcern. Cuz it looks as if Adora forgets
about Catra’s existence and she only rembers her when they’re face to face.
It’s all the other way on Catra, who has made
Adora the centre of her world. This is unfair because Catra doesn’t seem to
recieve any kind of comfort from Adora, for all the abuse she suffered as a
child.
Yes, Adora was with her all the time and even
defended her once from Shadow Weaver. But being trained both of them with the same
goal in mind and with nothing else in their lives, it makes sense that they
spend all that time together. As Catra said, Adora always was concerned about
Shadow Weaver’s opinion, so it is correct to asume that Adora never got
involved except if Shadow tried to physically abuse Catra.
Don’t misunderstand me, i’m not saying that
Adora didn’t care for Catra at all, but it isn’t strange that she never seems
to take an active rol in wanting to rescue her from The Horde? Adora only
proposed Catra to come with her when Catra told to her face about her abandonment.
The rest of the time is not that big of a deal. I understand Catra has rejected
Adora’s proposal, and she is really occupied with the rebellion.
But again, it doesn’t seem to be an active
interest in Adora for Catra, not now and not before. That’s why is painful for
Catra watching Adora getting closed to her new friends, Bow and Glimmer, to
wich Adora is willing to protect.
And then, it came to me: Adora is not getting
involved with Glimmer’ and Bow’s fellings, Glimmer and Bow are the two getting
involved with her.
It makes so much sense, that i can’t believe i
didn’t notice this before. Adora had been raise to be the líder of a fascist
force, and believe that they’re the good guys, a force that rejects any kind of
weakness. It’s not that Adora doesn’t care for Catra, but she isn’t capable of doing it in a require deeper level. The only three times that we see Adora comforting Catra is when little
Catra was in tears, to be punsihed or crying in horror… visible proof that
something is not ok.
And we see the same whit Bow and Glimmer. Adora
doesn’t seem to understand why Glimmer is so upset for Bow and Perfuma going
together to the ball until she has to explain it to Adora.
It really took me by surprise: The horde raised
Adora and Catra so they don´t express any weakness, seeing as negative things
like feelings and emotional attachment. Adora, being the favorite of Shadow
Weaver, didn´t struggle in disconnecting with her empathic side. But Catra, a
more emotional person, obligated herself to hide all her frustrations and
feelings, even the good ones.
That’s why Adora can´t realize how she made
Catra feel all this years, and her feelings now that she has join the
Rebellion. Catra hides, and Adora doesn’t know how or what to look for.
Adora is tottally moral and follows her basic
instincts: Protect people from the bad guys. If Catra decides to stay with the
Horde, Adora is not going to understand why, and without that, without acknowledging
that Catra wanted Adora to choose her, and now to be free from her feelings for
Adora, proving that she doesn’t need her, they will never be able to join
again.
It’s a defect that makes Adora a very human
carácter, contributes to her background and to the tragedy of both.
So, this is just a little reflection on why I find SPOP
interesting.
Hordak’s superior officer. All is known is he has giant mechanical claws and is always behind smoke so the viewer could not fully him, similar to Dr. Claw in Inspector Gadget.
Some continuities state he is Hordak’s brother.
One episode casually revealed he has two heads as Hordak was trying to figure out what kind of birthday gift to get for his boss.
May be a type of ancient evil rather than just a despot,as he can force Skeletor to work together with Hordak in the Christmas special.
A collector-marketed Action figure may show what he looked like before whatever mutation and cybernetic enhancement made him as he appears in cartoon..
Then there’s UK comics Horde Prime..
Speaks for itself.
The Action Figure geared towards collectors fan of the old series even gave him alternate heads based on the blurry appearance in the cartoon and the UK comic.
We do not know yet if he is on Etheria in the She-Ra reboot, Hordak may be cut off from his master due to Etheria being in a pocket dimension in the reboot.
Does anyone know/have any theories why Entrapta is the only princess without a magic rock thing?
Cause like- that sounds fake ya know? I feel like she just doesn’t know about it? Probably cause she doesn’t know her parents either (given that her family picture as a child is with robots she likely built herself).
And since she doesn’t know it exists she doesn’t have a connection with it (which we know is possible given Scorpia doesn’t have a connection with hers either)
She does mention, specifically, that upsetting the balance of the Runestones or destroying them would depower the ‘elemental’ Princesses, then says that she doesn’t have one.
She doesn’t seem to be the only one- I suspect Nettossa and Spinetta (might be misspelling or misremembering their names) are Runestone-less, too; otherwise, having them in the Rebellion from the start would be a bigger deal, and Glimmer and Bow would probably have a better idea what they do to begin with.
Plus, take the Princess Prom and its attendees; even if a full half of them are just Plus Ones, that still looks like more Princesses than can account for how many Runestones can fit on the planet, according to Entrapta’s model.
Hope this helps! Guess we’ll have to see!
I hadn’t thought about the princess prom honestly! But that totally makes sense! I just kinda assumed you didn’t have to be a princess to be invited? Mostly from Frosta’s saying something like “she’s a princess so by the rules she can’t be kicked out without cause” or something like that about Scorpia. I assumed that since Frosta was the host she had invited other people and by the rules /had/ to invite all the princesses too.
Then again this brings up a really cool question of what a princess even is. Cause Glimmer is a princess and isn’t a ruler of a kingdom. So that’s not the defining characteristic. We can assume that neither is magic since neither Scorpia nor Entrapta do any magic. Nor is being connected to a Runestone. But Runestone’s are also shown to be able to connect to more than one person (Queen Angella and Glimmer) at the same time.
Also about Netossa and Spinnerella – while they aren’t shown to be connected to a Runestone they do have powers which is interesting too cause powers supposedly come from Runestones (Glimmer needing to recharge, Adora transforming only with the sword).
Maybe the same Runestone can give powers to various people at once – with the central holder of power (Queen Angella, Mermista, Perfuma, ect) being the Elemental Princesses? Making Etheria work sort of like a feudal system? Where the Monarch (Elemental Princesses) have a working agreement with their Lords (other princesses who get magic from Elemental Princesses runestone)? That could explain the big number of princesses at the ball!
He totally would work as a cyborg super-soldier of the horde who betrays them to become a firefighter for the rebellion. I know its kind of a younger-character focused series but seeing an adult who’s decided to work to make sure no more generations of children again goes through what he did could be powerful.
(Did anyone else note that the adults and minors in the horde work side by side as troopers? That’s an interesting dynamic to explore.)
And works with my suspicion that later season will Have the horde acting more desperate and experimenting on their soldiers after too many losses.
To make things worse, lets make him be a father-figure to Kyle before he defects.
Its a gray area as the cartoon doesn’t have rights to He-man characters, but Snout-Spout first appeared in the She-Ra cartoon because the He-Man cartoon was over when his toy came out.
Classic Shadow Weaver, as a borderline villain sue, being awful and mocking to reboot Shadow Weaver. Pretty sure reboot Shadow Weaver would shoot back she doesn’t work for an idiot out of free will.
Meanwhile reboot Scorpia drives old Scorpia up the wall in many, many ways with her attempts to help.
“She started having the slaves do team building exercises! We work hard to make sure they are not united!”
Old Hordak starts off being shoved in a locker by New Hordak, but keeps coming back to make his life more aggravating.
