Vexxar may be hit or miss, but the Mahakalosians are still what I believe is the best and most charming portrayal of an artificial former slave race I have ever seen.
Especially when they get sent the coordinates to Earth by the main cast (mainly in the hopes of an alliance between them and humans becoming a thorn in the side of the evil empire pursuing the main characters, but off topic.)
A haunted doll mistaking a creepy android to be a bigger, stronger, haunted doll, and the creepy android mistaking the haunted doll as a smaller, sassier android.

I would love to see this movie or story. A creepy looking android that gained sentience and on the run decides to adopt this weird tiny abandoned android which is a haunted doll. They have some cute adventures where the android is all protective and caring to their new friend in their own way and the doll is trying to teach this giant doll how to use his ghost powers in that body and murdering people who pose a threat to them. Maybe complaining about how technologically advanced has changed the world so much and how they feel lost in it despite being here for so long. At best the android thinks the doll is talking about becoming obsolite, and at worst (but funnier) they think the doll is saying how they are literally lost and tells them they have gps so they can take them to where they want to go and the doll is just like this dumb new haunted doll…I gotta protect and nurture it before it dies from it’s naivette. Meanwhile an excorsist and some retrieval squad are tracking them down and they argue about what they’re going up against. Most of the retrieval squad don’t believe in the supernatural and thinks they found another defective android and the excorsist doesn’t understand technology that great so just assumes he’s dealing with two possessed items.

A recurring feature of transuhman sci-fi is the notion of “uplifted animals” – i.e, the idea that, once we have the technical ability to do so, we’re going to go about creating sapient and variably anthropomorphic versions of every species we can possibly get our hands on, so now there are talking cats and iguanas and jellyfish and whatnot running around. Depending on the author, this might be an exploration of the notion of personhood, a vehicle for facile body horror, an excuse to include furries, or… well, you can fill in the blank!
I kind of want to see this crossed over with mainstream space opera’s preoccupation with Why Humans Are Weird and have that be humanity’s characteristic weirdness. Like, every other spacefaring polity is a one-species-per-planet sort of deal, but Earthlings are a confederation of thousands of sapient species and adding more every day, and all the other aliens are just looking at us like: “Why? Why would you do this?”
Doesn’t that trend a bit into Trekishness (and B5ness) of “Humanity are coalition/community builders”?
In this scenario, humanity are coalition-builders in approximately the same sense that Victor Frankenstein is a bodybuilder.
“so the charter says the coalition council is one chair per distinct species of sophont.”
“yes, but…”
“without regard to, and I quote, ‘political, territorial, ethnic, religious, or other division,’ correct?”
“yes, but that was to prevent the council from being dominated by species that maintained such distinctions, which only about half do, not to permit…”
“and every reference to a coalition member is to a ‘species,’ as in ‘each species,’ ‘every species,’ and in particular, ‘any new species petitioning for recognition.’”
“representsatve Oboye, given the political and social union between your own species and petitioners, I think your demand quite outside the intent of the charter.”
“and I suppose that terrans would have four-fifths of the seats on the council has nothing to do with your reading?”
In the early 2020’s a ‘miracle’ pill is created. This pill makes it so humans no longer need to sleep, and it quickly becomes a success.
By 2030, a handful of governments have made it illegal for adults to sleep (mostly because they want people to work for more hours).
You’re on your way to work one day when you suddenly black out in the middle of the street. You wake up in jail and find out you’re about to be charged for falling asleep.
