Orga

While it is generally accepted that the American dub and edit of Godzilla 2000 is superior, I am saddened that the way the fight scenes are edited Orga comes off as a dumb brute in the American version, rather than desperate and struggling with a new body and this has greatly affected how fans view the kaiju.

The idea of an intelligent alien mutating out of control while (mostly) keeping their mind because they meddled into forces they didn’t understand is an interesting one.

Then again the U.S. version has the scientist’s interpretation of Orga’s motivations completely flipped: in the Japanese version they wanted to copy Godzilla’s regen regenerate their old body, in the dub they wanted regenerator g1 to adapt to Earth’s atmosphere

@finalposs‘s art on this post made me laugh so hard I decided I had to do something incredibly silly, so please enjoy a 30-year-old-woman doing this fucking voice  and then immediately losing all composure

Orga renerated from the lower half of their body after the movie… but they were never the same.

Orga and Godzilla

…is it just me or is this, like… vaguely romantic?

Godzilla just… tenderly touching Orga’s big, strong arm, looking up lovingly at Orga’s face… it’s not just me, right?

In the original Japanese version, Orga lost control over the regenerator G1 and mutated out of control, and kept desperately taking additional samples in order to understand what was going on.

In the U.S. version it intentionally wanted to be more like Godzilla.

So with that in mind, and Tyrantisterror’s comment..

American version: “I want to be you!”

Japanese version: “I can’t get you out of my mind.”

Before Godzilla Unleashed  I had ideas for a game with story paths for monster

Here’s what I remember from when I dreamed this back up in Middle School:

Orga’s main goal was to get access to a ship large enough off planet, and you could choose different alliances with different factions in pursuit of that goal. Be it breaking into a government arera or joining with an invading alien force. Orga would be portrayed for once as an intelligent threat.

Spacegodzilla’s way into the good guys side was through being nursed to health by King Caesar. Spacegodzilla always struck me as the “troubled orphan” of kaiju: lots of power and above-average intelligence but also cranked up aggression due to their crystal symbiosis and no guiding influence in their life.

Destroyah had a lot of paths open to her/him/them. They could become a disciple of Battra, or team up with either Orga or Spacegodzilla. Middle school me headcannonedd Destroyah as looking on oxygen breathers with contempt, but nowadays I realize Destroyah does technically breathe oxygen themself even if they do so in a destructive manner.

An ending cinematic idea I had was Destroyah aggregates sneaking onto Vortaak ships

After Unleashed came out I had several more ideas building on this

Krystalak and Obsidious were of course added to the idea of disciples for Battra.

The idea of Orga and Destroyah as a duo is one that continues to tickle me to this day. A former gene-splicer trapped in one form tutoring a younger more bestial pupil. Their ending would be them fixing up the crashed spaceship using enslaved Vortaak overseen by the aggregates and heading off into space… but not before Destroyah sends off a few aggregates into the ocean so a part of them will remain on Earth.

Fan writers and comic writers: Let Orga have agency!

Everyone (except drBuffalo and their All Monster’s Attack idea) always makes Orga dumb muscle, or have them repeat the same course of actions as their movie.

But why retread the original ground? And why turn one of the few kaiju with a superhuman intelligence into just another brawler?

At least the games bios for Godzilla Unleashed made it so Orga was working for the Vortaak out of their own free-will.

Orga is a chance to have an intelligent re-occuring threat of a monster. And yet their is also an unexplored pathos of the character if you go the route of the original movie: they have been in hibernation so long their body has decayed. Their attempts to grow a new body quickly using Godzilla’s dna goes awry. They are likely the last of their kind, or at least their culture. If any decsendents of their race exist, they might even treat Orga like a primitive curiosity of their past.

Let’s look at Drbuffalo’s take as an example of potential

Orga

At one time, Orga was the most notorious, and handsome pirate in the known galaxy. His body was composed of a malleable substance that could be altered by a processing hub in his ship, allowing him to adapt to any situation. On run from the Zone Fighters, Orga made his way to Earth… and ran straight into Godzilla.

Pound for pound Orga was able to match Godzilla in combat, constantly shifting his mass into a form to counter any move. It looked like he was about to win… until Godzilla destroyed his ship.

Now Orga is stranded on Earth, trapped in a clumsy and hideous form. Still, his mind remains intact, and has begun selling his secrets of alien tech to terrorists like The Red Bamboo in order to attain the materials he needs to finally get off this rock… he just hopes he can escape before Emperor Ghidorah comes looking for revenge.
