While I love Battra, I also somewhat would like to see a comeback to the mythology of Mothra that was in the novel predating the original film, where Battra doesn’t fit in as well.
But then again that gave me an interesting idea of Battra being a “breakout” or “expanded universe” in-setting for the religion surrounding Mothra, similar to how @tyrantisterror has called demons the “star wars bounty hunters” of Christianity.
To many islanders, Battra would be a doppelganger that fought Mothra the past, but more a plot device and symbol than a compelling character. Unlike what most unfamiliar to the native mythology assume, Battra is not seen as a balance to Mothra and isn’t even part of the creation myth. They performed their role as a destroyer, fought Mothra, and disappeared.
(Battra is special to me as a character because they are apart from the very nature and cycle of life they are sworn to protect.)
But when Battra is revealed to be alive in modern times, this changes things.
On a side note, would anyone else like to see a more technologically advanced Infant island? I imagine it would be very eco-friendly, and probably not having the best internet access, but I think there are some great story opportunities. I got the idea from a fanfic, The Infinity Web, that had Belvera as a boogeyman like-entity to children.
There could also be some cross pollination between traditional beliefs and the unconnected Mothra cults that sprung up around the world, and and exploration of how the elders feel about that.
