The implied genocide was added by Nintendo of America. In the Japanese version she’s merely racist/speciest.

Just how is Magolor connected to these guys?! Is he?! Is the another dimension from the SA game mode really Another Dimension? You can see magic circles in the dark purple foreground stuff that looks just like Mag’s magic circles….

It is heavily implied they  descend from a once unified culture that descended into civil war over technology in magic. The mages were banished. Magolor does not care about such ancient grudges and may not even know of the conflict, he loves both the ancient technology and the ancient magic of his ancestors.

Hyness fights in the name of a war that has long since ended.
