We got our first look at S.H. Monsterarts’ Godzilla: King of the Monsters figures that give us our first look at King Ghidorah, Mothra, and Rodan!

ギドラかっこいい!モスラが微妙…

モスラは、羽の目の模様が良いですね!(*^_^*)

原点回帰?

I knew I remembered bipedial concept art for the original Mothra fil ! So glad to learn I’m not crazy.

A stunning realization

I just realized Orga and Zigra are (likely unintentionally) the clearest counterpart kaiju between the Godzilla and Gamera series

  • Intelligent Alien
  • Literally a part of their spaceship at first
  • Huge Ego (look at some translations of the text Orga was filling computer screens with)
  • Trapped in a monstrous form (or monstrously large form in Zigra’s case) upon the destruction of their ship

The more I watch Redman, the more I believe it may actually take place in Kaiju Hell.

He just pulled the Jason Voorhees teleportation trick from Friday the 13th part 8. They are in kaiju hell.

i don’t actually think this is hell

look

Redman is a show where monsters recycled from other tsupro shows get killed

now notice how all these recycled kaiju suits are so battered they’re nothing like they used to look like when they first appeared in their shows. literally decaying with age. literally rotting.

they are literally rotting on the outside and the inside, yet they still live. their bodies are just too strong and resilient for their own good.

surely, with their bodies putrefying and falling apart with every step, they must be in terrible agony

consider this

what if Redman isn’t a serial killer that derives sick pleasure from killing them?

what if he is actually a benevolent angel of death on a mission to ease the passing of old and diseased monsters and aliens?

better yet

what if the kaiju summon Redman themselves when they feel like their time has come?

After all it’s very understandable for an old warrior beast to desire an honorable death in battle

perhaps he only battles those who wish to die fighting and those who don’t get euthanized by a single blow offscreen

the aliens who have destroyed Redman’s home planet?

he’s probably taken his revenge a long time ago

now, after losing everything, he has found a new purpose.

Okay, I have no idea what the hell Redman is, but I am ALL OVER the idea of a Toku hero as a psychopomp to dying kaiju. Like, there’s so many places you could go with that story idea….

Writing prompt: Go somwhere with that story idea.

The suits actually seem to be newly made for this show

Idea: Take a fairly common monster. Say the Rust Monster, or maybe a Chimera. Then imagine what it would be like at CR 20, or some point where it can be the big world-eating menace of a campaign. The Colossal rust monster might have the power to rapidly age any material into dust, or it could spray venom that gives characters Dire Tetanus. Or both! Maybe it even has the backing of an apocalyptic cult that worships it as a living embodiment of entropy.

I guess what I’m saying is your campaign needs more Kaiju, and you can find them anywhere.

Always have kaiju in your campaign.

CR 20 Gelatinous Cube……..

Yes. CR 30 owlbear.

CR 69 Goblin

You. I like the way you think.

The really great thing about this premise is that this is actually where a lot of classic D&D monsters like the rust monster and the owlbear came from.

Back in the early days of D&D, fantasy miniatures were tough to come by, so Gary Gygax and his crew used to buy dime-store bags of plastic dinosaurs to use as dragons. One day he found a pack of dinosaurs that had some Japanese kaiju figurines mixed in – claimed by some sources to have been Ultraman bootlegs, though there’s some dispute on the matter – and decided to stat them up and use them.

So really, making a CR 30 owlbear is just returning the monster to its roots!
