Hm, anyone else thing that it’s kind of weird that the more “adult“ Netflix shows have Marvel’s characters being a whole lot more squeamish about murdering people than the actually more child-focused characters from their cinematic outings?
To the extent where Matt Murdock has a whole lot of angst over whether he should kill someone like the Kingpin or stop someone like the Punisher, where elsewhere Tony Stark is blowing up terrorists and henchmen and the like.
In comparison, however, DC’s current movie cast also have their heroes out killing people, but that is seen as being a lot more negative than their Marvel counterparts. Superman breaking the neck of Zod, a god-powered alien Clark had no way of imprisoning who had vowed to personally murder every human in the world, is treated as a bad thing, but Thor trying to kill Thanos by smacking him in the chest with an axe/hammer gets cheers?
It’s curious how folk’s attitudes to the two company’s superheroes differ in this respect. Maybe it’s because of the whole “DC’s heroes are aspirational, Marvel’s heroes are human“ thing keep bringing up, about how DC’s heroes are icons who people aspire to be, while Marvel’s are heroes people are meant to actively relate too…
…Which means that while we hold the likes to Superman or Batman to a higher standard, where we expect them to find another way to solve an issue instead of, say, just killing every obstacle in their way, we expect Steve, Tony, Natasha etc. to just kill every mook on their way because that’s “more relatable“?
No, that can’t be right.
This isn’t to say that there aren’t versions of DC’s characters that do kill people. Burton and Schumacher’s Batman killed everyone he met (less so on the henchman side of things in the latter two films), but that meant that he burned through his most of his big name rogues gallery really quickly. Wonder Woman kills, about her’s were in wartime… so it’s okay, I guess?
WARNING: new spidey movie has flashing lights and bright colours
The animation style (stunningly beautiful as it is) of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has a lot of bright colours/fast movement/sudden flashing etc. often accompanied by discordant or ‘glitchy’ sound effects. This begins in the title screen without warning and occurs frequently during plot critical scenes.
The cinema I attended did not have a seizure warning for photosensitive viewers before the movie, so please take care of yourselves and each other, and share this information if you can.
She’s really been doing this since she was 6 or 7. She’s met Obama and, unfortunately, Trump (sadly, an extremely popular meme here). With not a ton of help (certainly not as much as you’d think) she’s organized regular water bottle donations. She works with community organizers and universities to raise money for this crisis and has become the face of this effort (as “Little Miss Flint”).
Not quite relevant but about a year ago, after the water in Flint was declared safe to drink, government vehicles from the fire department came to a water donation drop off she’d organized and asked for water. They exhaust lot of energy and resources lying about progress than actually making it.
Just…this has been a long and exhausting battle for these residents. Deadly even, for some. It’s one city. It really wouldn’t be that costly to fix this, but the longer it takes, the more costly it will get.
