Like, who are they even rebelling against? At first I assumed it was the Horde. But as far as I can tell, the “Rebellion” mostly consists of heirs to various kingdoms, along with Queen Angella. They literally represent the current power structure, and the point of rebellion is to *overturn* power structures. And the Horde really doesn’t count there, since it’s trapped behind the forest. If anything, the Horde is the rebellion here; they’re trying to overthrow the people in power and establish a new system.
So perhaps the Rebellion isn’t about the Horde at all. Perhaps they’ve got a loftier goal with wider implications, with the Horde just serving as a setback to their plans. I’m very curious as to what this goal might be.
The name is probably just a holdover from the original series, but that’s less fun to theorize about. I agree with you that the term “rebellion” is not very descriptive of their stated goals or ideology. I believe “Princess Alliance” has been used a few times and is a much more accurate name – they act more like a mutual defense treaty than a rebellion. Plus there is no indication Hordak has ever actually controlled anything outside the Fright Zone. The Rebellion isn’t operating in secret or reclaiming territory as far as we can tell. The timeline is also unclear as to how long the rebellion has been around and how long Hordak has been on the planet. I hope we get some better watsonian explanation for this.
I have never really given much credence to stats and power levels between series. These are often made up by secondary sources (such as Terebi Magzine or Terebi-kun) and not something intended by the creators themselves. Even if they do come from the creators, we are dealing with multiple creators over multiple series who often have no input or say over the other shows and thus the stats and power levels are limited to their one show and shouldn’t really be compared to those of other shows. This can be really extreme when dealing with shows with VERY different tones and themes. For example, comparing a comedic series like Kamen Rider Den-O to something serious like Kamen Rider Hibiki is like comparing the power levels and stats of Bugs Bunny to Batman.
I mean yes, they do meet in Video Games but there are balance issues involved in games that kind of evens everyone out (or it should). So, those shouldn’t count for anything.
Still, fans like to argue about things and compare power levels. I’ve been listening all my life to arguments about Superman vs. Son Goku or The Starship Enterprise vs. a Star Destroyer (it’s the Enterprise people, the Enterprise) to really get to involved in power levels and given stats.
These are things not seen in the actual shows themselves. To me, the shows are dramas, they are stories that live and die by the tales they spin, the character relationships and the tension they build. That has nothing to do with relative power levels and we often see weaker characters defeat incredibly strong opponents not because of their power levels but because it is dramatically satisfying and thematically consistent. That has nothing to do with power levels and stats.
Basically, I care more about plot, complications and the resolution of stories, things that cannot be boiled down to numbers. So, I honestly do not care about stats and find arguments about them rather pointless and ridiculous.
A fickle supernatural entity with abilities that make them theoretically the perfect spy; but are easily distracted, no real loyalty to the cause, and only sticks around because they’re fond of a few people?
Comedy gold.
Imagine.
Glimmer: “so what did you find out?”
Spy: “Rogelio needs to be more open about his feelings and clear about his willingness to listen if he wants his relationship with Kyle to go anywhere. They’d make a real cute couple but Kyle is so used to being pitied, Rogelio’s attempts at affection are being misinterpreted.”
*silent beat*
Glimmer: I meant about their plans.
Spy: Oh it sounded boring so I wasn’t paying attention,
*another beat*
Glimmer: *angry princess noises*
Angella: Now you know what it feels like to be on the recieving end, dear.
“Our side concocted the ‘bathroom safety’ male predator argument as a way to avoid an uncomfortable battle over LGBT ideology, and still fire up people’s emotions.”
COLOUR ME FUCKING SURPRISED
I want people, in particular cis people, to read this and understand what it means.
It means that these groups, these organizations, are so Hellbent on getting trans people outlawed, hurt, and killed, that they will openly lie and admit to lying to stir up emotions. They have no qualms with actively lying and distorting reality.
They have no qualms about misleading people. Actively lying to people.
They don’t care how immoral their actions may be, how much their rhetoric flies in the face of reality, as long as it reaches their end goal of the destruction of “transgender ideology.”
MassResistance and all their ilk want us dead, and should never be trusted, not even for the most trivial of matters. They should be rejected, reviled, despised, because nothing they do is in service of anything but hatred and evil.
And in case anyone actually doubts this, and wants to cry “fake news,” here’s MR’s actual article. Should it get deleted, here’s an archived version. Some choice bits under the cut, if you want to see how vile these people really are.
I was 20 when my first internship advisor got mad at me because I wasn’t drinking a beer during the department’s weekly happy hours. 20. Even if I did drink, it was illegal to serve me. He knew how old I was, and he didn’t care. Later on he told my academic advisor that I was unsociable and wasn’t a team player.
I’m really glad this seems to be less of a problem in bioanth than it is in archaeology.
this is the pokémon equivalent of a purebred dog owner wearing clothing with images of that type of dog. If Ash had a driver’s license i can assure you he’d have Pikachu bumper stickers and decals
and if you were not aware that this was a type of person, you are either very fortunate not to have encountered one, or else you are that type of person
