Thank fucking god for plumbers who are willing to go behind their corporate bosses’ backs and be like “yeah don’t pay the 150 dollar emergency fee just gimme 40 bucks under the table, also, don’t buy a water heater from us, my boss will charge u like 800 bucks. go to Lowe’s and ask for a Scratch n’ Dent, they’ll give you for like 200 bucks. Call me tomorrow and I can install it for you in like an hour” wow… solidarity
I cannot express how much I would rather slip one workperson 40 bucks directly into their pocket for doing me a solid by not making me get ripped off by his bosses, like…….. thanks bro
Jim Hightower
is a longstanding, respected columnist distributed by Creators Syndicate
– but Creators refused to distribute his latest column, “Free the Free
Press from Wall Street Plunderers,” which warns about Wall Street
vultures like Digital First Media and GateHouse Media buying up
newspapers, including the Austin Statesman.
The Austin Chronicle reports
that Creators wouldn’t distribute the column because it feared
retribution from the Wall Street firms; Creators managing editor Simone
Slykhous told the Chronicle that “We have more than 200 columnists and
cartoonists, and our job is to make sure that our actions do not
negatively impact them.”
Thankfully, the Texas Observer has run Hightower’s column, the story of which is perhaps more persuasive on the risks that Hightower warns against than his column itself.
honestly missionaries are evil. the idea of traveling the world to tell people Who Didnt Fucking Ask that their beliefs are wrong in the hopes that theyll adopt your beliefs seems sinister
An Inuit hunter asked the local missionary priest: “If I did not know about God and sin, would I go to hell?”
“No,” said the priest, “not if you did not know.”
“Then why,” asked the Inuit earnestly, “did you tell me?”
~Annie Dillard, Pilgrim at Tinker Creek
“The gods of the Disc have never bothered much about judging the souls of the dead, and so people only go to hell if that’s where they believe, in their deepest heart, that they deserve to go. Which they won’t do if they don’t know about it. This explains why it is so important to shoot missionaries on sight.” ― Terry Pratchett, Eric
This palm is called the Devil’s Penis. Shhhhh…I wasn’t the one who named it.

What is it with plants and dongs????
Humans cut off their sexual organs as part of our mating rituals. This is a threat.
😂 you’re right!!
It gets better: they move.
Those roots are constantly growing and form like stilts, and over time the palms drift…
Some more titillating pics of Devil’s Penis:
Iriartea deltoidea – An important tree species of the Amazonian rainforest. Y’all are getting excited about the stilt roots these things form, you’ll notice they head down into the ground. The rot-resistant wood from this tree is useful, from flooring to boats. Parts of the plant are edible to humans, though reportedly not tasty.
The dicktree is back!!! I did not realize that the dongs were the stilt roots that let it move, and I also didn’t know:
“Parts of the plant are edible to humans, though reportedly not tasty.”
Which parts??? 😂 j/k
Going through all of my posts and finding A TON OF THEM HAVE BEEN FLAGGED AND WOULD HAVE BEEN DELETED IF I HADN’T CHECKEDso I feel obligated to reblog the dick tree which has not been flagged.
tomorrow, Dec. 10, is the last day to submit a comment about a rule change the trump administration is trying to put out. (look for the link in the replies since tumblr wont let you search anything with outside links)
the rule change is about who gains citizenship. they want to make it so that if you’re an immigrant, and you have ever had any sort of government benefits, you would become ineligible for citizenship. this is coming at a time where the administration has made multiple moves to end birthright citizenship, not to mention all the things going on with ICE and undocumented immigrants.
and by government benefits i literally mean ANY government benefits. your kid qualifies for free/reduced lunch in public school? THAT COUNTS. medicaid? THAT COUNTS. food stamps? THAT COUNTS. it’s a terrifying and bullshit rule change that is nothing but malice, which is honestly their whole agenda. so at the very LEAST submit a personalized comment.
This is about the Public Charge and my midwifery clinic held an entire evening to talk about it because we are one of the few homebirth providers that take MediCal. From what we heard, things like WIC are not technically going to be eligible as disqualifications, the thing is mainly focused on SNAP and health benefits for a period of 36 months prior to a greencard or naturalization application. HOWEVER, WIC has seen enrollment drop every time there’s a news item about the proposed rule change and they have been contacted by people’s immigration lawyers saying that they are advising their clients to disenroll from any and all public assistance.
This will have massive implications for public health if it passes. People talk all the time about the impact of anti-vaxxers now that things like measles and polio are reappearing, well, how bout when it’s a choice between vaccinating your kids or risking your chance at being here legally? How about their resistance to such diseases when they simultaneously can’t afford nutrient dense food? Even if you use emergency MediCal instead of continuous care, it can disqualify you for a green card or naturalization. Using ANY public assistance at ANY point 36 months prior to application could disqualify folks from getting legal status.
Only unique comments will be read individually, so please change at least the first sentence on any form letters that might be provided. Go off if u want, I sure as hell did.
Is there a more direct way to comment than SEIU? I don’t like giving out my phone number and its required.

turns people into cowboys or samurais depending on which place you’re in
That explains why cowboy movies and samurai movies are so similar.
Cowboys are Alolan form Samurai
So in Japan it’s called Kirinomitake while in Texas it’s called either Texas Star (because after releasing spores it’s unfolded into a star shape) or the Devil’s Cigar because it starts out as a long oblong mushroom but then it unfolds with an ominous hissing noise and releases a big smoky black cloud of spores.
It only grows in these two places, and people did genetic testing and a bunch of math to determine that the two populations started diverging from each other nineteen million goddamn years ago, so it’s not possible for humanity to have moved it from one place to the other. They’re at the same latitude, but 11,000 fucking kilometers apart not to mention the goddamn ocean in the way.
“this is only another illustration of the unusual and unpredictable distribution of many species of the fungi. It would be difficult indeed to account for it, and we merely accept the facts as they are.”
So apparently it’s pretty common in the mycological world to find some bullshit that can’t be explained and would probably drive men mad to look at too closely, and just sort of shrug and move on with your day.
The species is also the only example of its genus.
Your daily reminder that anyone who devotes their life to studying fungi is not to be trifled with because their brain is full of things humanity was never supposed to notice.
I’m gonna throw my hat into the ring and guess that 19 million years ago this fungus was common as hell, but something happened that wiped it from nearly everywhere else (or continental drift happened)
Your first guess seems to be the case, these two areas apparently had very little change in their biome 19 mya
