Prehistoric Forest – An Abandoned Theme Park In Michigan 768 × 1024

@palaeofail

Oh man, these guys are clearly based off the Sibbick Avimimus, one of the weirdest palaeoart memes around!

Original is in the upper left. I’ve seen countless reproductions of this guy, many of which I wasn’t able to find online.

Incidentally, the actual thing looked nothing like this. Here’s a more reasonable one, from the fantastic John Conway:

Transformers and names

Attempts to make Megatron into like Magneto or something generally fall flat for me because of his name. Its meant to evoke a nuclear bomb,.

Its not like darker versions Godzilla where he is simultaneously representing the bomb and those harmed by it. You would need to change a lot about the character to pull it off.

Names are like super important to me as a Transformers fan. I judge the American Transformers cartoons (I try to give the translated Japanese ones leeway due to translation, dubs, and nameslaps to hold onto rights) alot by how well the names suit the characters.

Its why attempts to make the Decepticon cause sympathetic fall flat for me outside of animated, where Decepticon was a reclaimed slur (and it still felt they didn’t do enough with that and continued playing them as straight up evil.)

The name Decepticon tells me immediately the Decepticon cause itself in most continuities is similar to something  a “post-morality edgelord” would dream

Speaking of names,  I’d like to vent about some names in the Aligned continuity:

Smokescreen Prime’s name is terrible because its a meta-gag  about his role and doesn’t fit in universe

“Breakdown” was unfitting for a bruiser type character.

“Filch” is not a dumb name by G1 standards, and would fit perfectly in the micromaster days

Strongarm, I love you, but your name suits that of a villain and just screams police brutality and union buster.

I miss when names implied a special power.

On the other side, I don’t like names just be in-universe insults unless its adressed. It would hit the same wrong notes as the “negative theme” cutie marks we saw for joke characters in MLP:FIM.

I remember reading a fic from the viewpoint of the Stunticons upon their creation, and Breakdown was screaming internally as he went through  “why do I have that name. Please let it not be the reason I think it is. That’s cruel”, and he felt so much relief when he reached the parts about

Well, while in toy concept Megatron was derivitive of Megaton, there is also the possibility of linking it with Metatron, a messenger/voice of God, and that is totally something Megatron would ascribe himself to. A LaVeyesque take on Megatronus is more than enough to justify it in fiction.

I can only imagine there was some internal reason Strongarm was picked as a name over Longarm for that character.

Good point about the Metatron thing, never thought of that before.

( I still think giving the Fallen the name Megatronus was dumb though, but that’s just because I don’t like the Decepticons being thematically tied too much to ancient forces of supernatural evil. Personal taste.)

To my SU fan followers

While Steven Universe lost my interest after Human Zoo (which I have discussed my feelings on in the past), no one is a bad person for continuing to find joy in it.

And to be honest the main reason I stopped watching is because the DVR kept recording marathons as new episodes and I was overwhelmed having to delete them all the time. I’ll probably binge watch the series with friends after all the seasons are on hulu.

Why did “be critical of your media” turn into “find all its flaws and hate it” why did people become allergic to FUN

Because people confuse “critical as in critical thinking” with “critical as in criticizing something,” so they think that “look for something bad, no matter how far-fetched” is what “being critical” means.

Yeah. I have my problems with several shows with hatedoms on here, but I still find myself straining to understand the logic I come across.

Skeletor and He-man character arc ideas

I like the idea of Skeletor and He-Man both having parallel character arcs

He-Man’s problem would be while he’s good hearted, he can underestimate his friends sometimes and overestimate his own abilities.

Skeletor’s problem is he doesn’t appreciate his friends, and treating everyone like a minion even when they’re more accurately allies.

Both characters would work on and overcome their flaws, leading to the climatic showdown

But in the end, He-Man has more than just the power of friendship and family behind him. He has the compassion and gratitude of those he helped even when he did not know them.

Skeletor may have friends and loved ones, but He-Man in the end has more than that because he doesn’t limit his compassion to just those he knows.

A sort of a “harsh take” on “even evil has loved ones” but I thought it could be interesting.

whyyyyyy

Wasn’t this the toy that scared a kid real bad so they ran away screaming only since it follows sound it just chased this poor screaming kid all over the place?

yep that’s the one

The monsters have found another way to get energy while making both sides happy, good for them!

So now even toy electronic pets need warnings on what you’re getting into when you buy them.

You know that trope where an evil villain makes toys so every kid will bring them into their home and then they can strike? This is what happens when a villain does that, but gives up on the evil attack part when they realize sales alone would be more lucrative than the resulting super-crime.
