When I asked about why we culturally regard retail/service workers worse than factory workers despite the former currently occupying the latter’s rung in the current American economy, a friend of mine had an interesting response.

He said that while communities could essentially be built around factory jobs, you kinda can’t do that with retail/service jobs, because they have to be where the people already are.

And, looking at the reactionary fears of the decline of community which they misblame
on “loosening morals” rather than the actual economic factors, and  how most service jobs are connected more to some multinational franchise rather than to community, and how much right-wing producerists treat service jobs as being essentially an economic “failure state” even as they become more and more the norm, and it kinda all clicks.

IE, Right wingers shit on service/retail workers because they view them as a sign of communal and economic decay, and their worldview treats that as an individual moral problem rather than one of social forces.

WARNING: new spidey movie has flashing lights and bright colours

The animation style (stunningly beautiful as it is) of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has a lot of bright colours/fast movement/sudden flashing etc. often accompanied by discordant or ‘glitchy’ sound effects. This begins in the title screen without warning and occurs frequently during plot critical scenes.

The cinema I attended did not have a seizure warning for photosensitive viewers before the movie, so please take care of yourselves and each other, and share this information if you can.

First the Incredibles 2, now this? Is there a conspiracty to kill disabled viewers by superho film creators or something?

Honestly, if I make it as an artist, when asked about my success imma flat out admit that I was mainly able to make it because I’ve been priveleged as shit compared to a lot of people as a white cishet dude from a relatively well-off family.

Because putting on a pretense of meritocracy in a biased society helps nobody. And I’ll try to uplift marginalized artists as much as I can, because god knows there’s so many great people out there working who deserve better; and those who are priveleged need to extend the ladder to help them up.
