TIL Rodan was in Disney’s The Black Cauldron but was deleted from the movie during the massive editing process that took place in the film.
In all seriousness, it is scary how much this wyvern looks similar to the Heisei Rodan. The Black Cauldron premiered in 1985, while Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II premiered in 1993.
TIL Rodan? wyvern? no that’s a gwythaint. in Lloyd Alexander’s books The Chronicles of Prydain they are birds. in the animated adaptation The Black Cauldron. the gwythaints’ appearance were redesigned as dragons. (compaired to Andreas Deja’s artwork that looks a little birdlike)
Oh, yeah. I am excited for her focal episode, exploring and contrasting her experiences as an Oiran with those of a modern idol.
One thing I personally enjoyed about Lily’s focal episode is that her identity ISN’T the central aspect of the story. It doesn’t serve as the driving force, it’s simply one extra detail in a vicious skewering of how brutal the industry is on stars. Because while the episode kind of plays things humorously with the AUGH FACIAL HAIR, we are also told/shown that Lily’s health had declined SIGNIFICANTLY because of her work schedule and stress.
How often do we hear about a celebrity taking time because of “health concerns” or even retiring because they simply cannot handle it anymore? They are worked to the bone and so many of them suffer health problems as a direct result. Lily’s death criticizes how brutal things are, in a more extreme fashion with a child dying because her body couldn’t keep up with things.
Ai and Junko’s focus gave us contrasts about the different eras of idols, and how their relationship to the audience has changed. It also nodded towards how Expendable they are, because both were top idols that are mostly remembered for their untimely deaths. And no one seems to recognize either of them, in comparison to Lily and Saki being recognized by people. I had expected some conflict over Iron Frill performing at the same venue and being confused by recognizing Ai. But it didn’t happen, either because they have forgotten her…..or the entire group has changed rosters since Ai’s time, and none of the current batch are girls she knew.
I saw a sad facebook post from the gay bookstore back in Ann Arbor where I used to live about how they hadn’t sold any books that day so I went on their online store and bought a couple, and while you don’t get #deals like elsewhere online, I’d love it if y’all would consider buying your next gay book from them instead of like, Amazon.
Common Language is a great bookstore and while I’ve only been there once, I follow it on Instagram and really want to see it succeed!
This post is only a few days old, so let’s keep the ball rolling!
Cosigning about the greatness of this store.
They’ve announced they are closing on Dec 31, 2018. Please do go buy out their stock and send them off with a bang.
The final day of the store will be December 31st. We hope to sell as much of the inventory as possible. Effective immediately nearly all inventory is 20% off. In mid-November prices will be 30% off. For the final two weeks of the year everything in the store will be 50% off. Please continue to follow us on Facebook. An online presence may remain. While we are happy to continue to take special orders and online orders, the sale doesn’t apply to those orders.
See the current issues with ML are the reason why we need to be hyper-aware of what cartoons are trying to tell our kids.
If you think fiction doesn’t affect reality, you’re wrong. It’s been proven time and time again it does. Children are impressionable. I’ve mentioned this before but a lot of cartoons and shows aimed towards young girls always had some air of fatphobia too them. The most memorable is an episode of Totally Spies called Passion Patties. Clover ends up eating these addicting cookies that make her extremely fat and for the rest of the episode, she’s treated like garbage. Her friends rag on her, she’s seen eating constantly and there is one point where her ‘friends’ PUSH HER DOWN A HALLWAY SO SHE CAN TAKE OUT TWO BAD GUYS BY ROLLING INTO THEM.
I already had image issues and seeing that did not help. It reinforced the terrible idea that if I was fat, I was worthless. I know I wasn’t the only person impacted by that.
When you feed kids negative messages, it impacts them. That is why adults fight to make sure kids are given media that doesn’t feed them lies or harmful ideas. That is why so many people are pissed at how ML is handling certain themes. They’re sending really bad messages to kids.
Sorry, what ML ep are you talking about? It is just because Ladybug is very skinny? But there are many characters with different body types. No one made fun of Milene because she isn’t skinny. It wasn’t not even said .
