I love Christmas monsters – both from folklore and modern media – not just because they make Christmas itself more palatable, but because they always turn out to be not so bad and either give up their wicked ways, or were never truly wicked to begin with but simply misunderstood. They work exactly as I always wanted monsters to work when I was a kid – big, ferocious, gnarly fellas who ultimately turn out to be good friends once you confront them and talk shit out.
Be it Krampus or Grinch, Yule Cat or Miser Brother, or any of the various Christmas ghosts, a Christmas monster is always a welcome sight.
