the bear just agrees to start jumping with him like “alright yeah let’s do that”
@why-animals-do-the-thing Do you have time to spare for an explanation? I have no idea as to whether the bear is playing or something else
This is Luka, a female Andean bear at the Nashville zoo. Without more context, it’s not entirely clear what this behavior is – because the clip starts in the middle of the behavior, its impossible to know what the precursors to the situation were.
Quotes in some of the news articles from when the video went viral state that the kid started jumping first, and then Luka came over and “joined” him in a jumping session that lasted about ten minutes. However, we can’t know if that’s the full story just from that, because there’s a lot of other possible things that could have occurred that the guests might not have noticed.
I reached out to a friend at the Nashville zoo, and it turns out, they’re not quite sure why Luka does this either! One good thing, though, is that it doesn’t seem like it’s a stereotypy (a repetitive or compulsive behavior). This video was taken shortly after her exhibit debut at Nashville, where she was transferred to as part of a Species Survival Plan breeding program. Apparently Luka had done a version of this jumping behavior while in the exhibit a couple times before the videoed interaction, and that the zoo was actually curious enough about what it was that they were studying her to see when it occurred and what situations it happened in. So while they’re not entirely sure why Luka chooses to jump, the ethogram the zoo conducted indicates that the behavior doesn’t appear to be harmful to her or compulsive, and that it seems to be decreasing in frequency since the video went viral in June. They’re asking zoo guests to not encourage it in the future or try to get her to jump, because it’s important to let Luka do her own bear things rather than being encouraged to interact with visitors.
While this is an unusual behavior for sure, this video is actually cute – so long as you keep in mind that it’s the sort of thing that can’t always be guaranteed to be cute in all situations. A similar behavior could be a negative thing in a different situation with a different bear, but in this one, Luka is all good.
Normally I frown upon encouraging the release of animals , but when you are a kid knowing they’re going to a supervillain its more understandable thought process.
The problem with Tiamat is that nobody really knows what she looks like! There’s a few images that scholars think *might* be her, but nothing anyone can confirm as definitively Tiamat. She birthed all the dragons and monsters in the world so those extant pictures could easily just be her spawn.
So what do we have to work with? At one point, she is a “glistening woman” but probably not all the time. She embodies saltwater. Yoinked straight from wikipedia, we have “In the Enûma Elish her physical description includes a tail, a thigh, “lower parts” (which shake together), a belly, an udder, ribs, a neck, a head, a skull, eyes, nostrils, a mouth, and lips. She has insides (possibly “entrails”), a heart, arteries, and blood.”
Like, that could be almost anything, mammaries (big enough to form mountains!) permitting
so here she is as an enormous asiatic dragon with boobs
I kind of doubt the frequent propsosal that tomorrows episode might reveal Yugiri died from lesbophobia inspired murder, but I’m not sure from what little I know about the era she came from.
There apparently was a growing hostility to homosexual acts at the time (she diead one year into the Meiji period) when they had been in the past previously accepted, but all references I can find only discuss male homosexuality. Lesbian acts might have slipped under society’s radar for all I know.
I’m sure this has already been talked about but im going to put my opinion + view out there anyway. so I’ve seen people refer to Scorpia as a butch, and normally those are the same people who make those usually transphobic or racist (depending on the person they’re talking about and the situation) comments like ‘omg I wish this chick would step on me or punch me’. and honestly, it feels like Scorpia is getting that sorta shitty treatment as well just bc she isn’t gender conforming or a ‘smol’ girl. just like how Zarya in overwatch got the whole ’she’s not conventionally attractive so she must be butch!’ sorta label pinned on her.
being butch isn’t about your body type or physical appearance. your hair cut doesn’t dictate if you’re butch or not. you can have long hair and be butch. you can have short hair and be femme. being butch is about not aligning with femininity. more often than not you can find a lot of lesbians who are butches and find a disconnect with womanhood. it’s why he/him lesbians are a thing. it’s also in part of stylistic choices and what a person is most comfortable with.
when we look at Scorpia, she normally wears her horde uniform. when she has a chance to dress otherwise, here is how she choses to represent herself:
and ultimately decides on:
as soon as she had the ability to wear something outside of her uniform, she picked super femme dresses. they include a lot of jewelry, skirts, and makeup. this was her choice. while we don’t necessarily have to label these things as ‘women only’, but you can’t deny the fact that when u look at femme history they tend to dress in a way that is associated by society as feminine because that’s what they like and are comfortable in.
this isnt a ‘DreamWorks doesn’t allow butches’ situation. we clearly see in the gif that Catra is 100% dressed in a suit and loose bowtie. dressed in- you guessed it, butch fashion! I really think the she-ra team did an amazing job with Scorpia by showing that you can be a high femme and wear makeup and dresses even if u don’t align with what society (read as: men) view how women should be. it shows us that you can embrace femininity and be beautiful without having to be the thin and perfect feminine women we usually see in media.
